You can customize your Ford Maverick with tons of 3D printable accessories

In general, when we talk about automotive 3D printing, we often highlight tailor-made solutions that can be made for luxurious cars. Car manufacturer Ford reveals today an interesting proposal for its most affordable product: the 2022 Ford Maverick.

The unibody truck starts around $20K and ambitions to be the closest thing to the original Ford Ranger (a compact truck with a single bench seat, hand-crank windows, and an available seven-foot bed). Given its utilitarian nature, the new Ford model would be a dream come true for enthusiasts who want a truck to haul around stuff for their DIY projects.

As a matter of fact, with the Ford Integrated Tether System (short for FITS), it is possible to integrate a ton of Ford-built and homebrew accessories. They include for instance, holders for cups and trash bags, storage bins, etc. – all of which can be made using a 3D printer.

FITS is a series of slots at the rear of the center console and the under-seat storage bins designed to use with accessories. Not only will FITS work with Ford Accessories,* it also works with accessories owners create on their own with a 3D printer”, the car manufacturer states on its website.

Maverick owners have since put their imagination to work by amassing a significant stockpile of homemade FITS accessories, peppering 3D printing files platforms like Thingiverse with fun and useful items that anyone can download and print.

Using your own 3D printer or a third-party service, you’ll be able to design accessories to use with FITS that fit your needs, meaning the options are endless to make your Maverick pickup your own. Some of these owner resources can also be downloaded on the manufacturer’s website.
