“Nine years into PEEK and I am more convinced than ever. Nine years in which we built a company, raised the money, and sold it.” That’s how Stefan Leonhardt announced the new chapter he began early at the beginning of the year on LinkedIn.
His first company KUMOVIS, launched in 2019 and sold in 2022 to 3D Systems develops medical 3D printers. Today, with some of the same cofounders, Sebastian Pammer, Arnaud Bruyas and Yannick Krieger, he launches Munich Medical Devices GmbH.
This company is built on the expertise acquired over the years through Kumovis and 3D Systems. It will focus on building the next generation of polymer implants.
Leonhardt said they focus on porous implants because they “do not think the next generation of polymer implants should be solid blocks of plastic.”
Their website gives a longer explanation of their conviction: “Bioactive PEEK, structured layer by layer into an architecture that redefines implant design – osteopromotive, radiolucent and metal-free. Patient-specific and series devices, out of one manufacturing platform and an AI-driven software workflow.”
I can’t wait to see the arguments they will put on the table to back up this claim, and after seeing how well they advanced KUMOVIS through 3D Systems, I am sure it’s worth your attention. Stay tuned.
