Weber invests in Colossus Printers – They will first develop recycled materials for large-format 3D printing

Weber and Colossus Printers enter a new form of collaboration to further develop large-format 3D printing.

Weber Additive is the newly launched AM division of Hans Weber Machinenfabrik, a German company acknowledged for the production of extruders, grinding machines and its division “Robotics & Automation”. In the AM industry, the company specializes in FGF technology, a technology that consists in processing plastics in the form of granules rather than the conventional expensive filament method. It has recently introduced its DX 025 manufacturing system.

The Belgian 3D printing specialist Colossus Printers develop a large-format 3D printer named after their company.

The transportable plastic 3D printer can print very large structures that can reach a 6-metre high using recycled plastics. The company is always looking for new material profiles and new applications that can expand the machine’s capabilities hence this interest in partnering with Weber.

Two companies that “Think Big” and that want to establish direct extrusion as a standard manufacturing process.

This partnership combines traditional mechanical engineering expertise and classic extruder know-how to advance direct extrusion technology for operators.

Both companies will first focus on the additive processing and process adaptation of recycled materials, which is becoming increasingly important in the face of current debates on sustainability and environmental protection in tomorrow’s industrial manufacturing world.

In order to put the cooperation on a solid footing in the long term, Weber has acquired a 30% share in the young start-up company. The aim of the cooperation will be to combine and focus the respective strengths of Colossus Printers and Weber and to create synergies in order to consolidate and continuously expand this joint position in the highly competitive market of additive manufacturing.
