Apium Filament Dryer can reduce moisture-related additive manufacturing defects

The FDM manufacturing process often leads to moisture-related 3D printing defects which results in poor print quality. This might be caused by the type of filaments used. Indeed, when they integrate polymer, materials are more likely to absorb moisture from the environment than polyolefins.

In order to remedy this issue, Apium has collaborated with Purpose AM Systems, to launch a Filament Dryer.

Purpose AM Systems is a Singapore-based company that specializes in R&D and product development on additive manufacturing solutions for the industrial and professional sector.

Apium Filament Dryer

By providing solutions for processing polymers with Fused Filament Fabrication 3D printing technology, Apium is continuously implementing new ideas in order to improve the field of FFF 3D printing technologies. A PEEK filament and a 3D printer that integrates the FFF technology intended for industrial applications are solutions offered by the company that have preceded the filament dryer.

The latter aims to ensure high extrusion quality, less oozing and stringing, high interlayer adhesion and high mechanical properties. It can be used with all Apium P Series 3D printers, Apium filaments and a variety of open system 3D printers.

The filament dryer integrates thermally insulated walls that can reduce the heat loss. It is also equipped with front-loading enabling easy filament interchange. “It has rotary desiccant system for dehumidification of incoming air, a set of HEPA and active carbon filters to limit amount of exhausts and filter dust particles.”

Speaking about the partnership, Pinar Karakas, Head of Marketing and Quality Management, comments: “Through our partnership with Purpose AM, we are launching Apium Filament Dryers and provide our end-users with the complete solution for processing high performance polymers. We offer the unique AM solution with our advanced customer support established by our Service Center experts and forerunner technologies.”
