Alchemist I

On the heels of a recent launch, the manufacturer of the wire-laser metal deposition system Meltio has announced the release of a new robotic AM solution. Called Alchemist 1, the system is based on Meltio’s Wire-Laser Metal Deposition (W-LMD) technology and is made in the USA in collaboration with FANUC America and Accufacture.

FANUC America Corporationis a subsidiary of FANUC CORPORATION in Japan and provides CNC systems, robotics, and factory automation.  Accufacture provides systems that enable the production of large, fully dense 3D-printed metal parts.

Alchemist 1

Designed to meet production requirements across the automotive, aerospace, mining, oil and gas sectors – to name a few, the Alchemist 1 features a spacious build volume of 3.2’ x 6.5’ x 3.2’, and compatibility with inexpensive welding wire feedstock and enables a deposition rate of up to 1 kg an hour.

The pre-integrated Alchemist 1 Cell combines Meltio’s LW-DED (Directed Energy Deposition) head with a FANUC six-axis robot and two-axis positioner within a sleek, laser-safe enclosure. Furthermore, the system comes complete with a complimentary Meltio Space robotic slicer license, though customers have the flexibility to utilize other slicer technologies as well.

For Xavier Fajardo (CEO of Accufacture), Alejandro Nieto (Meltio Engine Product Manager), and Michael Sharpe (Executive Director Sales for Materials Joining), the new system truly highlights the expertise of each stakeholder involved while providing a standardized, preconfigured solution that will help simplify and streamline the adoption process of DED 3D printing across industries.
