3D Systems has announced several enhancements to Reverse Engineering Software Geomagic. Geomagic® Design X™ and Geomagic Wrap®, the latest versions of the company software have been enriched to enable designers and engineers to achieve greater accuracy in product development.
As far as Geomagic Design X is concerned, the new features include: An Unroll/Reroll function, new Selective Surfacing features, as well as a framework for early feature and capability preview.
With a customer-centric approach in mind, the AM specialist has created a sort of circle where one feature highlights the benefits of another. For instance, the set of mesh processing tools integrated in the Unroll/Reroll function enables the designer to unroll the mesh to automatically extract a 2D sketch. Once the amendments are applied, the sketch is rerolled for additional engineering.
While this feature decreases the number of multiple rounds of trial and re-work, it also improves part precision and downstream usability. Selective Surfacingon the other hand, combines very fast organic surfacing with high precision feature modeling methods. Leveraging this feature will enable the engineer to improve productivity while maintaining control over model accuracy. The framework for early feature and capability preview will open new doors to innovations as users will have a keen eye on the R&D process and the possible solutions or feedbacks to bring to their projects.
As far as Geomagic Wrap 2021 is concerned, the main enhancement the software company brings is automation: scripting automation, texture manipulation tools as well as a new HD Mesh Construction method.
By using the programming language Python in the scripting automation tool, the designer can further customize its applications and improve the design of 3D surfaced models. With the new texture manipulation tools, the engineer will no longer need any additional program for color and texture scans. Finally, since construct 3D data from point clouds can be challenging, given the amount of information required, 3D Systems has integrated a HD Mesh Construction tool to make it easier for engineers to create watertight meshes.
If these features work properly, they will certainly enable any designer/engineer to achieve the desired speed and accuracy in the product development. Lastly, general availability of Geomagic Design X 2020 and Geomagic Wrap 2021 is respectively planned for late May 2020 and late July 2020.
