News Round-Up: Sintavia, BCN3D & MakerBot

In this article, we cover the latest acquisitions, business developments and funding across the industry. Sintavia, BCN3D and MakerBot are mainly covered.

New 3D Printer completes Sintavia’s production portfolio

Sintavia has added a Q20+ electron beam 3D printer to its production portfolio. The new acquisition which will be installed in the company’s Hollywood, Florida, production facility in early August, is the company’s third electron beam system and the nineteenth industrial metal 3D printer in its portfolio.

Sintavia is also the only company with Nadcap approvals for laser additive manufacturing, EBM and in-house heat treatment. The choice for EBM lies in the technology’s ability to build complex titanium aerospace components.

Over the past several years, we have worked to qualify the Q20+ for aerospace manufacturing and now have several aerostructure product lines that depend on this technology,” said Brian R. Neff, Sintavia’s CEO. “Even in a difficult overall manufacturing environment, the demand we have seen for EB-built components is very encouraging.”

BCN3D raises €2.8 million in funding round to drive development in new materials and hardware

BCN3D has secured €2.8 million in funding round during the Covid-19 pandemic. Led by CDTI (the Spanish National Innovation Agency) and Mondragon Group, an industrial business group, the new investment brings BCN3D’s total funding to €5,5 million. As a reminder, last year, when it became a standalone company, BCN3D raised $3 million seed funding to further develop its IDEX 3D Printing technology (Independent Dual Extruder).

With the new investment, the Spanish 3D Printer manufacturer will further enhance its FDM 3D Printing technology, and will develop new materials in collaboration with BASF Forward AM and Mitsubishi Chemical, with the goal of covering the majority of technical applications.

Furthermore, the company is also working with Danobatgroup to drive the adoption of smart technologies in the fields of grinding, turning, cutting, punching, bending and automated production systems.

BCN3D’s technology and expertise continue to raise interest among industrials across the world. With this additional support from investors, they are taking the right steps to further advance the desktop 3D Printing market.
