With the goal of optimizing both photopolymer resins and printer parameters, BASF 3D Printing Solutions GmbH and Photocentric have worked together to develop a material portfolio for 3D printing.

Photocentric is a UK-manufacturer of 3D printing equipment and photopolymer resin materials. The company has decided to deepen its partnership with the 3D printing business unit of BASF, Forward AM, in order to develop a new portfolio of photopolymers for Photocentric LCD daylight printers.

These 3D printers use a patented daylight activated resin technology. Curing at 460 nm (visible light) the backlit LCD arrays and resins do not suffer from screen degradation that is commonplace with small format UV LCD printers. Furthermore, visible light cures more effectively at lower intensities and with particle rich formulations than UV.

With Forward AM as partner, Photocentric benefits from the company’s expertise in the development of Ultracur3D®, this time optimized for its 3D printers. Just like Prismlab, Photocentric will also distribute this new range of portfolio (“Ultracur3D® Powered by Photocentric”).

“The new chemistries we have harnessed for our product offering enable us to meet our customers’ very high mechanical performance demands and realize their massscale applications. At the same time we are intentionally offering industry-disruptive prices on formulated bulk resin to the market: Jointly we want to move the Additive Manufacturing business towards higher productivity and lower prices per printed part,” adds Dr. Piotr Bazula, Global Product and New Business Development Manager Liquid Formulation Solutions, BASF 3D Printing Solutions.

The new portfolio will firstly integrate ten products customized for Photocentric liquid 3D printing technology. Over time, both partners plan to extend this line with other products.

“Ultracur3D® EPD 1006 Powered by Photocentric” will be the first in this series of pace-setting 3D printable photopolymers that the two partners will market jointly.

“Photocentric is deepening its partnership with BASF to facilitate the custom massmanufacture of components in a wide variety of industries. Together we have created a unique combination of software, hardware and chemistry that removes obstacles to using Additive Manufacturing in mass production. Working with Forward AM, we have developed a portfolio of products that delivers the required functional properties perfectly, enables high-resolution mass manufacture, and thereby adds real customer value,” says Paul Holt, Managing Director, Photocentric Ltd.
