Just like we saw Local Motors rise in a certain way from its ashes, Xerox 3D printing business resurrects through an acquisition of ADDiTEC. While the financial terms around this transaction are undisclosed, the announcement occurs ten months after the parent company decided to scale back Elem Additive. This means that ADDITEC strengthens its existing capabilities with a Liquid Metal Printing technology, and will explore growth opportunities within the AM market.

From commercializing the first industrial liquid metal 3D printer to deploying it on a naval vessel, Elem Additive has had a history of firsts. The company’s liquid metal 3D printer, ElemX, was developed to be a safer and simpler solution, addressing supply chain resiliency for transportation, aerospace, defense, and industrial manufacturing.

We’re very excited to have completed the acquisition of Elem Additive Solutions,” said Brian Matthews, founder and chief executive officer at ADDiTEC. “This acquisition is a significant step for our company, we see incredible value in liquid metal print technology, and Elem Additive’s success supplements our growth efforts as we continue to develop new offerings and bring to market our turnkey metal additive manufacturing systems. We are delighted to have acquired Elem Additive Solutions and will strive to create further innovative services and solutions for our customers with the addition of this exciting liquid metal printing technology.”

It may be not the widely used AM process now, but Liquid Metal Printing technology is appealing and counts a number of advocates. ADDITEC that sees value in this technology will now have in its customer base organizations like the US Navy, Siemens, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Not to mention that its geographical location on the Florida coast is a tactical strategy that will play to the strengths of the company (given the potential prospects across the government-driven R&D space.)
