The new Stratasys J55 3D printer bets on full CMF (color, material, finish) capabilities

Compared to a quiet “home refrigerator”, Stratasys new 3D Printer can process five simultaneously printed materials that enable nearly 500,000 colors, PANTONE™ Validation, realistic textures and transparency in one printed part. In a nutshell, a wide range of possibilities at every turn.

“Creating without compromise every step of the way”, that’s the ultimate goal Stratasys aims to achieve every time it launches a new 3D Printer. Every new comer in its 3D Printers portfolio comes with improvements whose overall goal is to make this vision a palpable reality. This means, every time the manufacturer takes into account part realism, productivity, material challenges and obviously price.

Designed to fit design studios and office spaces, the Stratasys J55 suits the budget of virtually any product design team, without compromising on part quality

What are the possibilities offered by the New Stratasys J55 3D Printer?

A maximum build volume size of 1,340 cubic inches (22 liters), an additional 4.6 sq. ft. (.43 m2) of floor space and a five-material capacity which enables operators to load their most commonly used resins and avoid downtime associated with material changeovers: The J55 3D printer bets on full CMF (color, material, finish) capabilities, and is about a third the price of other PolyJet™ printers

What’s innovative in these technical features is the patented rotating build platform with a fixed print head that the 3D printer integrates. Compared to a quiet “home refrigerator”, the new device integrates the manufacturer’s ProAero™ filtration technology for odor-free operation, therefore can be placed anywhere.

The PolyJet technology can process materials that can deliver a full range of textures, transparency with VeroClear (VeroUltraClear availability later in 2020), X-Rite-based color profiles and PANTONE Validated™ color – offering a universal language of color that ensures reliable, realistic decision-making across every stage of the design process.

We developed this innovative new 3D printer to truly transform the product development process for product designers and engineers everywhere,” said Omer Krieger, Executive Vice President of Products at Stratasys. “Not only does the J55 fit the budget of virtually any product design team, but the quality of the parts you can 3D print are best in class. It’s so simple that anyone can set it up and use it, and it’s so quiet you’ll forget it’s running.”

First customers such as Cincinnati-based Kinetic Vision and global research firm IDC that tested the system, confirmed the capabilities of the 3D Printer to achieve a single production from initial concept modeling to highly realistic final prototypes.

However, although the manufacturer does not give further information about the post-processing stage, it claims that this production stage does not require a lot of time.

Last but not least, in addition to the most commonly used CAD files  (e.g. SOLIDWORKS®, CATIA®, PTC Creo®, Siemens NX, Inventor® file types), the production workflow is also supported by GrabCAD Print™ software and the latest 3MF file format, a significant improvement over traditional STL, OBJ, and VRML files. Moreover, for the first time, the PolyJet technology specialist will also add support for 3MF color workflow with KeyShot® 3D rendering software from Luxion Inc., a capability now in beta and planned for late 2020.

The J55 is expected to ship in July 2020.
