Early at the beginning of this year, Sigma Additive Solutions, a provider of quality assurance software, joined forces with software company Materialise to identify and correct metal 3D printing build issues in real-time. Both companies go one step further today, as they now provide AM users with automated quality control. This is possible through the integration of Sigma’s the PrintRite3D® quality assurance solution into the new software solution Materialise Process Control.

Bart Van der Schueren, CTO of Materialise, explains that “Materialise Process Control uses artificial intelligence to automate quality control”. “Through collaborations with partners like Sigma Additive Solutions, AM users benefit from a technology-agnostic innovation that offers unparalleled insights into their 3D printing process. With this data, our customers can continuously learn how to improve it,” he adds.

The solution will be available in Materialise’ CO-AM platform, an open software platform provides companies direct access to multiple hardware technologies and their preferred tools from Materialise and other software developers, supporting them along every step of their AM journey – from planning and printing to quality control. As a reminder, here is the list of companies that have already joined the platform.

In this specific case, the value of this integration for AM users lies in the ability to assess multiple complimentary data sources and analytic methods which would lead to faster, data-driven decisions, improving operational efficiency and driving revenue growth.

As per the words of Materialise, its Process Control software allows manufacturers to analyze and correlate layer data from the 3D printing process. Sigma’s PrintRite3D® suite on the other hand, provides in-process data, including thermal data from the melt pool, yielding layer data that can enable users to find the root cause of defects faster.

“Incorporating automated holistic quality offerings on the CO-AM platform will place vital data in the hands of owners and operators, allowing them to make informed decisions regarding the reliability and safety of components they produce,” Sigma Additive Solutions Chief Executive Officer Jacob Brunsberg states.

Sigma Additive Solutions and Materialise are hosting a joint presentation at AMUG 2023, Room 5C, 5th Floor, Hilton Chicago Hotel at 10:30am CT on March 21st as well as displaying this integration at Materialise’s booth, P21, Salon D at AMUG 2023 from March 19-23.
