Optimal positioning and stability are crucial when filming – I can testify to this, given the amount of time we spend filming when we cover an industry event. Imagine now if you are shooting for an entire day!  To accommodate a wide range of cameras, Bright Tangerine, a UK-based manufacturer of filmmaking products and camera accessories, recently developed the KASBAH Ātman Universal Shoulder Rig.
Designed to provide comfort and agility, the shoulder rig required the use of 3D printing to achieve that purpose. It features a lightweight and low-profile design, the KASBAH Ātman kits integrate seamlessly with ARRI BUD & VCT-14 tripod plates, offering ergonomic comfort through innovative shoulder pad designs.
For the manufacturing process, the engineering team from Bright Tangerine used Carbon™’s Digital Light Synthesis (DLS) and 3D printed a matrix structure in a flexible resin. This ensures that “KASBAH shoulder pads sculpt themselves to the user’s shoulder,” Bright Tangerine said.
This shoulder rig completes a wide range of applications already achieved by Carbon in the consumer goods industry. It also contributes to reinforcing Carbon as a “consumer goods” brand with a technology mindset.
That being said, camera operators could choose between a one-axis or two-axis shoulder pad to suit their comfort and filming needs. The one axis pad offers forward/backward adjustments while the two-axis pad provides additional side-to-side movement, offering maximum comfort and optional balance, Bright Tangerine said.
