Software provider 3YOURMIND introduces a Technical Drawing Analysis functionality as part of its part identification software. Designed to accelerate spare part digitization, the  data extraction functionality could analyze technical drawings, also known as 2D drawings, up to 200x faster than manual methods. The solution is ITAR compliant and available via secure cloud hosting to support strict defense and government security standards.

For many equipment owners, technical drawings are the only existing records of how a spare part or assembly was originally manufactured. 3YOURMIND leverages the power of AI to enable the extraction and interpretation of data across various formats and layouts.

The new solution uses optical character recognition (OCR) and large language models (LLM) to extract and analyze metadata from title blocks, drawing notes, and annotations. The part identification software then uses this information to evaluate spare part manufacturability, determining whether parts can be produced using standard advanced manufacturing technologies such as CNC machining, powder bed fusion, material extrusion, vat polymerization, and more specialized technologies like direct energy deposition and binder jetting.

3YOURMIND’s AI-Powered Technical Drawing Analysis helps engineers identify which parts to digitize by extracting key information, such as notes and annotations, from 2D drawings. The feature can analyze individual parts or process thousands of technical drawings simultaneously, streamlining the process of creating new 3D models and addressing a common bottleneck in equipment sustainment workflows.

Going beyond part identification

In addition, the feature extends the capabilities of 3YOURMIND Part Identification by forecasting cost and lead time. The software intuitively displays these insights to empower decision-making based on whether parts can be re-engineered for advanced manufacturing or should be procured using traditional logistics systems.

In addition, it addresses long-term challenges of digitizing spare parts by creating a centralized hub with standardized data practices. It is well-positioned to support industries such as defense, aerospace, and energy, where equipment sustainment presents a significant operational vulnerability.

In many industries, technical drawings remain the primary reference for manufacturing spare parts,” said Stephan Galozy, Chief Product Officer at 3YOURMIND. “Our goal is to unlock the full potential of this existing data, enabling organizations to make faster, more informed manufacturing decisions. By streamlining this otherwise manually-intensive process, we’re helping to accelerate the next step: creating the 3D file. Our long-term vision for this functionality is text-to-3D.”
