Candid to mass produce millions of clear aligner models with Carbon DLS 3D printing process

Candid launches Candid Pro, its “orthodontics-as-a-service” doctor driven clear aligner therapy to meet the needs for dental and orthodontic practices. To achieve this service, the digital platform for oral healthcare collaborates with AM company Carbon, in order to produce accurate and reliable models for clear aligners to straighten teeth.

Using the manufacturer’s L1 3D printers and DLS process, Candid’s end-to-end approach includes the use of a patent-pending treatment plan methodology, an intuitive technology platform built for clinicians, and a suite of patient support.

The dentistry’s expert aims to provide a scalable way to deliver clear aligner therapy for patients, something they will be able to achieve with Carbon DLS. As a reminder, in the medical industry, the company has been able to 3D Print millions of nasopharyngeal swabs for COVID-19 testing.

With its build volume of 400 x 250 x 460 mm (15.7 x 9.8 x 18.1 in), and an accuracy of +/-300 microns, the L1 has also scaled production to the millions of parts for companies like adidas, Specialized, and Riddell.

“Any one patient requires a series of fully customized and accurate models for their teeth straightening process,” said Brian Ganey, Senior Vice President of Sales. “By leveraging the L1 Production Solution, we can scale production significantly and produce at record speeds, ultimately meeting the doctor and patient expectations as they anticipate the start of their clear aligner treatment. We’re proud to partner with Carbon whose 3D printing process enables us to produce customized aligners at scale at a cost that is viable for patients.

As this is first time we are going to see DLS in action in dental 3D printing, this partnership with Candid is another proof-of-concept that the technology can meet the requirements of a wide range of industries.
