Spoiler alert: Solukon’s latest announcement is a teaser to one of our “end-of-year” reviews in the soon-to-be-released November/December edition of 3D ADEPT Mag. In the article that highlights “10 technology features of the year”, the very first feature mentioned is the rise of large-format Additive Manufacturing which leads to the development of new solutions across other stages of the manufacturing chain. To illustrate this statement, we took the example of depowdering: “The development of the depowdering system SFM-AT1000-S from Solukon is the result of an inquiry from machine manufacturer AMCM GmbH. Now that AMCM can tune 3D printers with building envelopes of 820 x 820 x 1200 mm or even larger, I guess Solukon’s newly launched SFM-AT1500-S would be a great fit for such metal 3D printers”, we explained in the soon-to-be released November/December edition of 3D ADEPT Mag.
Little did we know that, an agreement was already in the making. OEM Solukon confirmed it yesterday: AMCM acquires the newly released SFM-AT1500-S and this automated system will help depowder 3D printed parts produced on AMCM GmbH’s M 8K 3D printer.
AMCM will be commissioning the new Solukon depowdering system at its Starnberg facility soon.
As a reminder, the SFM-AT1500-S can accommodate parts with dimensions 600 x 600 x 1500 mm or 820 x 820 x 1300 mm with a maximum weight of 2100 kg, including the build plate – an immense intake weight for depowdering systems.
The SPR-Pathfinder® software remains a key strength of the depowdering machine. “SPR-Pathfinder is a tool that every customer would certainly like to have, and so do we. The software is indispensable for complex components because the exact movement pattern for very complex geometries cannot be generated using human imagination alone. The software eliminates the need for any human programming effort,” says Martin Bullemer, Managing Director of AMCM.
That being said, the acquisition emphasizes the importance of niche solutions designed for specific production challenges.
“The exchange with our OEM partners is one of our guiding principles. With AMCM, we have always shared the approach of pushing the boundaries of what is possible for our customers. This has enabled us to launch a depowdering system for components weighing up to 2,100 kg in record time,” Andreas Hartmann, CEO/CTO of Solukon confirms.
