The investment will enable the step-by-step expansion of capacities for strip, rod, wire and powder in the coming years.

VDM Metals, a German producer of metallic powders for Additive Manufacturing, recently secured 67 million euros from Acerinox, a global company known for the manufacture and distribution of stainless steel and high-performance alloys.

VDM Metals represents the High-Performance Alloys (HPA) division of the Madrid-based Acerinox Group since March 2020. The company produces nickel alloys and high-alloy special stainless steels in particular in the product forms sheet, strip, bar, wire and powder. In the AM industry especially, VDM Metals’ portfolio ranges from cobalt-chrome alloys, corrosion resistant alloys, superalloys to special stainless steels.

Its superalloys are ideal for aerospace applications, whereas corrosion-resistant nickel alloys best serve the chemical process or consumer goods industries. Cobalt chrome alloys on the other hand are used for the production of dental or other medical implants.

Speaking of this investment, VDM Metals said the Unna site will be the focus of the investments. Three new remelting units and a second powder atomization plant are being built here.
