Laser system is not only one of the key components of an SLM printer, it is also one of the components that often drives the final cost of a machine

The additive manufacturing team at Rosatom has recently announced that they design and develop their own range of laser systems for 3D printers.

Rosatom is a relatively new comer in the AM landscape. Together with «Rusatom – Additive Technologies» (RusAT, an enterprise of TVEL Fuel Company), the company has opened a new AM center in Russia to demonstrate the expertise of Russian players in the field. Developed by the experts at the Research Institute of Technical Physics (VNIITF), this new line of lasers include lasers that deliver a power of 200, 400, 700 and 1000 W, all of them being compatible with SLM printers.

Laser system is not only one of the key components of an SLM printer, it is also one of the components that often drives the final cost of a machine. Manufacturers that find a way to address this issue, often deliver affordable metal 3D printing solutions.

The line of laser sources will undergo a series of tests at RFNC-VNIIEF, after which they will be sent to RusAT’s Additive Technologies Center at the site of the Moscow Polymetal Plant for further testing on RusMelt 300M and RusMelt 600M 3D printers.

The created line of lasers is an opportunity to fully provide the additive manufacturing of Rosatom with its own developments, which is necessary for the business stability and independence from external suppliers. Moreover, in the future, RusAT will be able to accept orders for laser products of this line”, noted Mikhail Turundaev, CEO of RusAT.
