IperionX, an advanced titanium production technology company, has announced that the first production run of its Hydrogen Assisted Metallothermic Reduction (HAMR) furnaces at their Titanium Manufacturing Campus in Virginia, USA, has been successful. This will be a milestone as the Company’s HAMR technology raises the production capacity of the element titanium 60-fold, charting a new future in its manufacture.
In the recent production run, 100% scrap titanium was used from the Ti-6Al-4V alloy (Grade 5) and reduced oxygen from 3.42% to less than 0.07%, significantly below industry standards.
This milestone emphasizes IperionX’s commitment to high-quality, efficient production of low-cost titanium metal compared with conventional methods. IperionX’s inherent HAMR tech reduces energy consumption & allows for faster production cycles, and operation at lower temperatures while ensuring lower capital investment against traditional routes such as the Kroll process.
Using 100% recycled titanium serves IperionX’s goals regarding sustainability and offers a cleaner solution within the titanium industry. The company expects to spend the coming months fine-tuning the supporting equipment, with full production capacity targeted for late Q4 2024.
Aggressive plans toward more HAMR furnaces at the Virginia facility are underway, focusing on producing over 10,000 metric tons annually by 2030. This puts IperionX company at the forefront of reshaping the titanium supply chain to the United States.
CEO Anastasios (Taso) Arima depicts, “We are satisfied to reach this milestone and demonstrate that IperionX’s patented technologies provide important, long-term advantages compared to legacy processes.”
Armed with these innovations, IperionX is on a path to produce sustainable, high-quality titanium products at a lower cost and maintain the United States’ competitiveness in global titanium production.
