Germany-based Headmade Materials, which offers powder metallurgy solution and a cost-effective Cold Metal Fusion line, has jointly launched a project in association with AM Solutions and Neue Materialien Bayreuth to develop a continuous process chain for the CMF technology from powder to smoothed component.
CMF or Cold Metal Fusion is a powder-based indirect metal 3D printing solution developed by Headmade Materials and AM solutions, part of the Rösler group has 80 years of experience in surface preparation and surface finishing.
On the other hand, Neue Materialien Bayreuth is a research institute specializing in the research and development of novel materials including those used in 3D printing. The institute has a Demo Center Additive Manufacturing department in the Technical Center for this purpose.
Now these three companies join forces to start the “AutoSmooth” project where the Cold Metal Fusion or CMF technology will be further developed. CMF already helps AM manufacturers in making 100,000,000 3D printed parts every year in series production.
With the AutoSmooth project, Headmade is trying to take additive series production to the next level by automating the unpacking of the 3D printed parts and the subsequent surface processing of them. The primary goal of this project is to create a fully automated process chain which matches the CMF technology.
For this, Headmade Materials, AM Solutions and Neue Materialien Bayreuth will work on automating unpacking and surface treatment components of CMF technology in the next three years.
Speaking about the matter, the Co-CEO of Headmade Materials Christian Staudigel said: “From our perspective, the key to industrial production with low scrap rates for the entire industry lies in component handling. Through the cooperation in the AutoSmooth project, we will reach a new level here. In order to exploit the full potential of additive series manufacturing, it requires the automation of unpacking and surface processing”.
Headmade Materials, AM Solutions and Neue Materialien Bayreuth will provide more information on the AutoSmooth project at Formnext 2023 where they will be placed at hall 11.1 booth D58, hall 12.0 booth D59 and hall 12.1 booth C71 respectively.
