GKN Additive, a digital manufacturer of metal 3D printed parts has announced the opening of a Customer Center in China. The center is dedicated to providing the automotive market with solutions from powder to design concept to production.
The Danyang-based facility will enable customers and partners to learn more about the metal 3D printing process by collaborating with GKN Additive’s engineers. GKN has extensive expertise in demanding applications of the industry. Although its use cases of the technology are often seen in the aerospace industry, it should be noted that the company exclusively focuses on the automotive market in China because of the great number of car manufacturers in the country.
According to Guido Degen, President Additive Manufacturing at GKN Powder Metallurgy, “China is the world’s largest automotive market and automotive manufacturing country for conventional and new energy vehicles. Automotive development activities have shifted from traditional regions to China, and this leads to an increased demand on new technologies like additive manufacturing.”
“We believe that metal additive manufacturing is one of the future processes that will have great effect on the automotive industry and electric vehicle production. From saving time to market through rapid prototyping to redesigning and rethinking parts and assemblies for additive, to reduced inventories by on-demand replacements – metal AM adds value during the whole component life cycle.”
GKN brand in China
Acknowledged as one of the key players in the industry, GKN provides its services through a great number of subsidiaries and sister companies. GKN Additive for instance, is backed by GKN Powder Metallurgy that specializes in powder production, metal processing and that is supported by an engineering network of over 7,000 employees in 28 locations around the world. Other companies of the brand include: GKN Hoeganaes and GKN Sinter Metals.
Present on the Chinese market for a decade, over 500 people ensure the services of the company to clients in Danyang and Yizheng in the coastal Jiangsu province, north of Shanghai. Its presence and services have enabled the industrial specialist to position itself as one of the top suppliers in the country. And the opening of this customer center will just confirm this leading position.
