Fortius Metals secures $2M from AM Ventures to Bring Advanced Metal 3D Printing to the Aerospace Industry

Fortius Metals, Inc., a metal 3D printing company that specializes in advanced materials, has secured a $2M round from AM Ventures to scale manufacturing capacity, grow the company and accelerate its go-to-market strategy.

The company appeared on our radar for the first time at the 2022 edition of AMTC, where Jeff Lints CEO and founder, discussed the importance of using the right materials to achieve quality and efficiency during the manufacturing process and the need to reduce costs. With a key focus on the development of wire-based materials, Fortius Metals ambitions to help customers develop solutions previously not possible with robotic 3D printing.

At the heart of its activities, one finds a patented technology that enables welding and 3D wire fabrication using high performance metal alloys; a process that delivers results capable to meet the demands of aerospace customers and robotic welding fabricators.

The company learned what it takes to operate on the AM market from Elementum 3D, its parent company that has already patented and commercialized this technology for powder bed fusion additive manufacturing.

We are looking forward to supplying customers who are already requesting our proprietary 6061 aluminum welding wire that solves traditional “hot cracking” problems,” said Jeff Lints. “We are proud to be a Colorado company along with many of our space and aircraft customers.”

Fortius welds are often twice the strength of incumbent commercial options for welding and 3D printing, which will help customers increase design performance, improve product quality and reduce weight.

“Jeffrey and his talented team are developing not only a way of making high strength metals readily available for large scale printing and traditional welding but also increasing their mechanical properties, an investment was just logical”, Philip Schultheiss, Senior Associate at AM Ventures states.

Fortius Metals’ position as a potential supplier to technologically cutting-edge aerospace and defense customers inspired AM Ventures to navigate complex CFIUS clearance rules for their investment in order to open the door to a long-term partnership with Fortius, a press release reads.
