This year’s Formnext event set the pace for new partnerships in the Additive Manufacturing industry. One of them was FKM Additive Manufacturing and AM Solutions coming together to optimize the SLS 3D printing process.
Known for providing AM services with powder bed laser melting, the German company FKM Additive Manufacturing has IATF 16949 certification for supplying 3D printed parts to the international automotive industry. AM Solutions, part of the Rösler Oberflächentechnik GmbH comes with 80 years of 3D post-processing service experience.
Together these two AM companies are trying to address the conflict between high-quality and cost-effectiveness with 3D post-processing solutions and optimizing the SLS 3D printing process is an important part of it.
The Managing Director of FKM Additive Manufacturing Matthias Henkel echoed these sentiments when he said: “Quality and cost-effectiveness play decisive roles in series production and they have identified 3D post-processing as a lever”.
Speaking about the partnership, AM Solutions, Head of Sales, Tobias Schamberger said : “For FKM, we are taking a close look at the various challenges and working together to develop solutions based on systems from our broad portfolio. At the same time, we have the perfect sparring partner to test and validate our developments”.
FKM using the S2 system
FKM Additive Manufacturing is automating the post-processing of powder-bed plastic parts by purchasing an S2 system from AM Solutions in 2024. This will result in a continuous process with reproducible results while maintaining high quality.
“By investing in an S2, and the resulting further automation of our processes. It also helps us to prepare the company for expected external factors, such as the looming shortage of skilled workers, and to streamline process chains”, said Matthias Henkel.
The AM company is trying to centralize the post-processing of several 3D printers through AM Solutions high throughput S2 system as it has a loop belt for transport of delicate 3D printed parts through the machine and an integrated blast media preparation system which ensures consistent quality for reproducible results.
Future developments in the FKM-AM Solutions partnership
The two AM companies will take the partnership forward with future projects on C2 and other systems. AM Solutions is showcasing its C2 system which combines smoothing and coloring of polymers in a single operation at Formnext 2023. Built on the 2-in-1 principle of AM Solutions it can reproduce two process steps in a single system.
