3D Systems & GF Machining Solutions to address issues of additive and subtractive manufacturing processes

The manufacturing environment remains a critical issue in the industry due to its challenging fabrication processes. 3D Systems and Georg Fischer AG (GF Machining Solutions) decided to tackle some of these issues together; the main objective of both companies being to redefine the Factory of the Future.

The Factory of the Future: main issues

The manufacturing environment raises issues of additive and subtractive manufacturing solutions within automation and post-processing in workflows. Metal parts production are also a key issue because many factors are considered prior to its adoption in a fabrication process. (Read the dossier of the June Issue of 3D Adept Mag).

3D Systems is recognized for its expertise in AM – As a reminder, 3D Systems’ Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Charles “Chuck” Hull invented 3D printing. As for GF Machining Solutions, the company is acknowledged for its precision machining. It has proven its value on the market with advanced automation and post-processing technologies. Both companies will combine these strengths to produce complex metal parts within tight tolerances, and reduce total cost of operation.

New tools will be necessary to achieve this goal and they include the creation of a new software for part design, 3D printers, materials and automated material handling, electrical discharge machining (EDM), milling equipment and post-processing technologies.

The companies plan to debut the first combined solution as a result of this partnership in conjunction with IMTS 2018, September 10-15, 2018, Chicago. #StayTuned
