The American University in Dubai now hosts a Center for 3D Concrete Printing and Digital Construction

The American University in Dubai (AUD) has opened a scientific research center for 3D printing of concrete buildings on its campus. The center is said to be the first of its kind in the Middle East.

The opening of this center is supported by partnerships with various specialists of Construction 3D Printing including Arabtec Construction Company, 3DVinci Creations and Robert Bird Group, a global engineering consultancy firm.

This collaboration between these entities will foster the development of innovative processes, products, materials, and business models in Construction 3D Printing. The research center will contribute to the renovation expected in the region using digital technologies.

As part of this partnership, provider of 3D Printing solutions has supplied a 3D printer to the center. The company has a large portfolio of technologies designed for the architecture and construction industry. Its recent partnerships have even been signed with AI Build, a manufacturer of large-scale 3D Printers.

Edouard Baaklini, CEO of 3DVinci Creations, stated “With this cooperation agreement, we aim to perform strategic analyses of the present and future capabilities of 3D Concrete Printing and of digitally-driven construction systems. The Center will work with local regulatory bodies to develop newly updated building codes that pertain to 3D printed buildings and structures. We will also develop cost models of 3D Printed Concrete buildings and structures together with tools for value analysis vis-à-vis traditional construction methodologies.”

For now, the University will seek to build partnerships with the private and public sector within these domains. During the upcoming years, The Center plans to develop and administer educational and training workshops/seminars in 3D concrete printing for the local and regional communities.
