Materials design firm Techmer PM is now part of Purdue University’s Composites Additive Manufacturing and Simulation (CAMS) Consortium. Its presence as a material supplier will help advance research that is being done on large-format additive manufacturing (LFAM).

As a reminder, three years ago, Purdue and Thermwood established a large-scale additive manufacturing laboratory to execute industry-funded research into large scale composite thermoplastic additive manufacturing. Established at Purdue University’s Composites Manufacturing Simulation Center (CMSC), the work requires solid expertise in manufacturing, simulation, and characterization of composite materials.

Techmer PM’s presence as part of this consortium makes sense when we know that the company’s materials have always been used in several applications enabled by Thermwood’s LSAM.

While nothing is said about the possibility to extend the use of LFAM to other technologies than Thermwood, the CAMS consortium confirms it will benefit from Techmer PM’s expertise in recycling technologies, and how that can be applied to LFAM.

With a wide range of high-performance materials, Techmer PM aims to leverage collective expertise as part of CAMS – like Purdue University’s ADDITIVE3D simulation, to accelerate the development of materials for LFAM.

Jenna Hunt, Business Development Manager for Additive Manufacturing, Techmer PM, added, “The ADDITIVE3D simulation data provides a remarkable baseline and offers the ability to make accurate machine-specific material cards. Through this unique partnership, we will broaden our material card portfolio to streamline users’ processes, reducing the number of iterations needed to print a part successfully – ultimately saving time and money while accelerating speed to market.”
