Sika introduces a 3D Concrete Printing technology for the construction industry

Sika Corporation has just announced the release of a 3D concrete printing system for builders. As a reminder, the specialty chemicals company develops products for bonding, sealing, damping, reinforcing, and protecting in the building sector and motor vehicle industry.

The company is also utilizing industrial 3D printing to produce parts for other industries like the automotive sector. As a matter of fact, the Belgian subsidiary has recently discussed the latest developments in “Automotive Design for Additive Manufacturing” as part of the March/April issue of 3D ADEPT Mag.

However, in the construction industry especially, Sika’s expertise ranges from robotics, process control system, and extruding system, to concrete technology and mix design and formulation of 3D mortars to allow for precise control of how the concrete behaves. The development of this new technology is therefore, not that surprising given the company’s expertise in the field.

Furthermore, this is not its first experience with concrete 3D printing as it previously partners with Pikus Concrete for the commercialization of 3D concrete printing technology.

Sika’s high-level technology and expertise of 3D concrete printing is revolutionizing the concrete market. Sika has developed a multi-component system for 3D concrete printing including material supply, mixing technology, patented print head, printer system and software control. With close collaboration between the customer and Sika, the right material for the printing solution is determined resulting in a high-quality 3D cementitious print. The addition of these key resources to the team will help support the efforts of Sika’s first technology adopter, Pikus3D LLC, located in West Jordan, Utah, who is delivering the finished product of this new and exciting technology to the US market”, the company said in a press communication.
