Project DIAMOnD, a 3D printing initiative we have been following since day one, has partnered with Automation Alley & Oakland County to open a Digital Transformation Center in Auburn Hills. The center will provide small & medium-sized manufacturers extensive access to industrial 3D printing equipment, training, and support.

The Digital Transformation Center (DTC) has gained massive support from Geofabrica at Auburn Hills, Michigan. This business primarily focuses on curating custom-made 3D printing devices & protocols specially designed for industrial applications. Through DTC, Project DIAMOnD firms can get a chance to work on Additive Manufacturing courses with an expert team & leverage  3D printers to test and make products.

The CEO of Project DIAMOnD – Pavan Muzumdar says, “At the Digital Transformation Center, Project DIAMOnD participants will learn how to transform their businesses from a capital & process-based mindset to a design & intellectual property idea facilitated by 3D printing. This encompasses having an opportunity to launch & validate products before investing in industrial additive manufacturing equipment. They will retain access to 3D print & post-process products, without the burden of owning & operating challenging equipment.”

Apart from 3D printing equipment manufacturing, the DTC has pledged access to industrial 3D scanners & modern measurement software for modeling. With this, firms can easily upload & place an order for parts via the DTC portal.

Dave Coulter, The Oakland County Executive expresses his thoughts, ”Project DIAMOnD has already provided over 300 companies with the 3D printers that have allowed them to become highly competitive in a global marketplace. The Digital Transformation Center builds on the success that is helping transform the region and state into a magnet for advanced manufacturing and training.”

This latest initiative has gained the attention & support of various businesses and governments after its establishment in 2020 as per Oakland & Macomb counties. The ultimate goal of this program is to accelerate the digital transformation of additive manufacturers.

Last year in 2023, Oakland County offered an additional $15 million in funding, and the Government of Gretchen Whitmer has called for a statewide expansion of this program during May 2023.

In June 2024, Project DIAMOnD was named a “Scalable Model,” by the Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP) report. It was mentioned as a non-partisan NGO by suggesting different methods to create a manufacturing hub of the USA to be a globally competitive entity.
