MetShape, a manufacturer of indirectly 3D printed metallic components, has just secured a funding round backed by AM Ventures. This investment is the first publicannouncement made by AM Ventures since it opens a 100-Million-Euro Venture Capital Fund to further support AM companies.
Although the amount of the investment has not been disclosed, it would be big enough to support MetShape’s investments in new equipment, expansion of marketing and sales measures as well as further staff growth. MetShape is a spin-off of Pforzheim University. Created in 2015, the company became a standalone company in 2019, and received one year of start-up funding from the state of Baden-Württemberg.
MetShape’s manufacturing strength relies on Lithography-based Metal Manufacturing (LMM) Technology, a process developed by Incus GmbH which turns 3D files into prototypes and small-scale production of components in MIM (metal injection moulding) quality. Together with the machine manufacturer and Pforzheim University, the MetShape team continues to work on projects that will push LMM technology forward.
“With our holistic approach and know-how of the entire LMM process chain, we provide our customers the highest flexibility in developing and manufacturing their applications,” says Dr. Andreas Baum, CEO and co-founder of MetShape.
Johann Oberhofer, Managing Partner of AM Ventures, expects two-step sinter-based additive manufacturing technologies to become increasingly important for the production of larger quantities of metal components: “The key to mastering indirect AM processes is to control the oven-based sintering processes after the green part has been 3D printed. We are convinced that the team around Dr. Andreas Baum combines the necessary competences and has extensive know-how for the development and serial production of high-quality applications.”
While this investment will enable the company to evolve from a LMM pioneer to a competent partner for all relevant AM technologies for the production of precise small and micro components, MetShape prides itself on its ability to provide its customers with two key advantages: a comprehensive technology consulting and economic benefits with highest flexibility (in terms of variants, complexity, geometry changes and quantities).
