Materialise broadens CMF offering with patient-specific PEEK implants

Materialise has added custom PEEK (polyetheretherketone) implants to its cranio-maxillofacial (CMF) portfolio.

This means that surgeons working with the Belgian 3D printing service bureau could now choose between titanium and PEEK for patient-specific reconstructions, while maintaining the continuity of Materialise’s integrated digital ecosystem (one planning session, one workflow, one partner).

This integration allows surgeons to plan cases with clinical engineers using Mimics Enlight CMF, manage workflows through Mimics Flow, and secure implants with Materialise Standard+ Solutions. By keeping the same validated and traceable process across the portfolio, surgeons can choose the most suitable material for each patient while working within a familiar and consistent system.

Personalization isn’t just about material choices but about the precision of the planning process and the reliability of execution,” said Maarten Zandbergen, Market Manager at Materialise. “Our clinical engineers work hand in hand with surgeons to design each implant, and that collaborative approach remains constant whether the case calls for titanium or PEEK. What changes is the surgeon’s freedom to choose; what stays the same is the peace of mind that comes from a proven, end-to-end process.”

The choice for PEEK implants is driven by the material’s radiolucent properties, which support clear postoperative imaging and make it well suited for cranial reconstruction, facial contour restoration, and onlay procedures, while complementing titanium’s role in load-bearing cases.

Each implant is produced in Europe by Ad Mirabiles under an EN ISO 13485-certified quality system, ensuring consistent accuracy, and Materialise commits to delivering PEEK implants within 72 hours after surgical plan approval, matching the reliability of its titanium portfolio.

The custom-made PEEK implants are now available to surgeons across Europe (excluding Switzerland), where Materialise CMF solutions are established.
