MachineWorks, Polygon-Mesh, Processing Software, Polygonica 3.4, Formnext 2024

MachineWorks, a software developer and provider of various software solutions, will unveil at Formnext 2024 (Hall 11 Stand C2), the latest version of Polygonica. Since our first conversation with Richard Baxter, the company has developed this polygon-mesh processing software solution until this 3.4 version. 

The announcement follows the recent release of a new cutting tool engagement demonstrator for cutting force analysis of CAM toolpaths. As a reminder, Polygonica is an automatic mesh-healing engine that offers unique solutions for widely required 3D operations such as Booleans, offsetting, re-meshing, and tolerance-based decimation. 

These are extremely useful for developing print-preparation functionality such as hollowing, lattice creation, support generation, slicing, hatching, and infill.

Key features being released in Polygonica 3.4 include:

  • Seamless UV parameterization
  • Smoothing of ragged boundaries typical of laser scan data
  • Feature detection of embossed and engraved labels
  • Recreate a mesh solid from a set of dense slices
  • Improvements to registration and alignment including a new fine-tuning mode
  • Extend a surface at an angle to a plane, for dental crown border modeling
  • Subtract and intersect 3D curves with polygon mesh bodies
  • A new option to preserve large planar regions during mesh decimation
  • Improved handling of embossing across sharp edges, suitable for imprinting texture patterns onto a mesh surface

Polygonica 3.4 is targeted for release in December 2024.
