Jabil has launched a new filament, Jabil PA 0600 that could be used in traditional and additive manufacturing. The manufacturing solutions provider has developed the material at its Minnesota-based Materials Innovation Center.
Main specifications
The patent pending additive material would deliver the high strength and stiffness needed in aerospace, automotive and industrial manufacturing applications. It also exhibits dimensional stability, good wear resistance, as well as low-friction and self-lubricating characteristics.
According to the expert, the material would also deliver capabilities associated with Delrin® Acetal plastic or alternative POM materials, not to mention that it prevents from exposure to formaldehyde emissions when it is overheated. Furthermore, due to the absence of formaldehyde, there is no release of noxious odors or fumes during processing.
A Jabil’s survey dedicated to 3D Printing Technology Trends revealed that for professionals, “lengthy material development cycles” is one of the main hurdles in the adoption of AM. To address this issue, the company has been working on the development of filaments, powders, pellets and custom materials featuring unique and enhanced properties.
The Jabil PA 0600 filament is available in the Ultimaker Marketplace in Ultimaker Cura 3D printing software and is available through DigiKey.
“Jabil PA 0600 filament is an exciting, engineered material advancement, offering a viable Delrin alternative with the durability and strength needed for a wide range of additive manufacturing applications,” said Bas de Jong, VP market development, materials & strategic partnerships at Ultimaker. “Previous materials from Jabil that are already available in the Ultimaker Marketplace in Ultimaker Cura offer users first-time right results and peace of mind while printing on our 3D printers and using the printed applications.”
