FABULOUS, a French developer of advanced SLS powders, and post-processing company Additive Manufacturing Technologies (AMT) have jointly announced the successful validation of food contact compliance for 3D-printed parts produced using FABULOUS DETECT PA11 and post-processed with AMT’s PostPro® Pure vapor smoothing technology.

The validation was conducted by an accredited independent laboratory in accordance with U.S. FDA 21 CFR §177.1500, the standard governing nylon resins in food contact applications.

Test results across water, ethanol (95%), and ethyl acetate simulants all fell well within regulatory limits. The full process, from material selection through post-processing, has been confirmed as consistent and scalable across AMT’s PostPro systems.

The validation of a complete, documented workflow

This validation gives manufacturers in food processing and pharmaceutical environments a clear, repeatable path to compliance.

For years, the question in regulated sectors like food was whether 3D printed parts could be trusted in environments where surface integrity and material traceability are non-negotiable. FABULOUS DETECT PA11 addresses the material side: it is a bio-based polyamide engineered with metal and optical detectability to minimize contamination risks. AMT’s vapor smoothing technology addresses the surface side: by sealing porosity, PostPro® reduces the risk of bacterial retention and liquid ingress — two factors that are critical in controlled environments.

From alliances with HP and Mitsubishi Electric to a recent distribution agreement with Raise3D targeting the European SLS market, AMT brings considerable credibility to any compliance claim.

This collaboration marks a turning point for the industrialization of 3D printing in highly regulated sectors,” said Olivier Coulet, CTO at FABULOUS. “Our customers now have access to a certified, reliable solution, free from technical or regulatory barriers.”

The certification covers the entire workflow and confirms that results are reproducible across AMT’s PostPro system range. That scalability matters enormously for manufacturers looking to move from qualified samples to volume production.

Full compliance documentation, including test results and certification references, is available upon request from either company.
