A global medical tech firm – Exactech has announced the successful completion of the first ankle replacement surgery with its Vantage® Ankle 3D and 3D+ tibial implants.
The MD of St. Luke’s University Health Network, James Lachman carried out his first ankle operation in Easton, Penn. “It is exciting to be the first to implant Exactech’s latest ankle products and provide my patients with their benefits. The Vantage Ankle 3D+ prosthesis stands out with its ability to address a greater variety of cases with simplified instrumentation,” he added.
Exactech’s Vantage Ankle 3D & 3D+ tibial implants offer surgeons with tibial stem lengths ranging from (10 – 30 mm) & the additional perks of 3D printing. Additive Manufacturing builds a surface that replicates the trabecular property of cancellous bone. Despite having the 3D printed surface, the implants consist of spiked pegs & a tall sharp central cage evolving in diameters to assist with initial fixation.
Read more about the additive fabrication process Exactech leverages for shoulder prosthesis – Mark Easley, the Design Team Surgeon from Exactech reveals, “Last week, nearly 8 years to the day following the first Vantage Ankle implantation, Jim Nunley and I are excited to have immediately followed Jim Lachman’s experience with two Vantage Ankle 3D+ total ankle arthroplasties at Duke. After several years of developing the 3D+ tibial component with the outstanding Exactech engineers and other design team surgeons, Jim, Lachman & I are pleased with how the tibial elements & instrumentation melded with the existing talar component options. The additive manufacturing, the press-fit pegs & the augmented central cage afford meeting initial tibial element stability. The exciting thing is how the intuitive instrumentation allows for reliable & reproducible insertion of a stemmed tibial element via routine anterior ankle surgical approach.”
Adding these latest products to their portfolio depicts various clearances & deployments by Exactech in the foot & ankle sector. At the beginning of 2024, the firm delivered the latest vitamin E polyethylene insert (Activit-E™) & is aiming to reveal its world’s first-ever ankle navigation system ‘ExactechGPS® Ankle.’ Also, Exactech partners with 3D Systems to launch patient-oriented cutting guidelines using the latest implants.
