One of OEM AM EOS’s most popular metal materials is now produced with 100% recycled feedstock. Increasing the recycled content to 100% for the EOS Aluminium AlSi10Mg has resulted in a 77% CO2e reduction from the prior material, and it now achieves 83% CO2e reduction compared to AlSi10Mg made from 100% virgin raw material. For EOS, this is yet another step toward minimizing the climate impact of manufacturing.

The announcement follows a couple of initiatives conducted to be more “responsible”. They include the VIRTUCYCLE® Used Polymer Material Take-Back Program, which takes used polymer material and components with 100% sustainably sourced energy to transform AM powder into recycled high-performance injection molding granules; PA 1101 ClimateNeutral polymer materials – biobased products where all remaining GHG emissions are offset with Gold Standard carbon credits; PA 2200 CarbonReduced polymer materials – products where GHG emissions are reduced significantly by suitable measures such as green energy use in the production process as well was Carbon Calculator which considers AM project carbon emissions with key cost metrics to provide an estimation of the organization’s AM CO2e emissions and expenses.

EOS Aluminium AlSi10Mg was first added to EOS’s Responsible Products portfolio in April 2024 when it began incorporating 30% recycled feedstock, achieving a 25% CO2e reduction. While EOS Aluminium AlSi10Mg now employs 100% recycled feedstock, the resulting material maintains the same properties, characteristics, and performance in additively manufactured parts, ensuring existing customers do not need to requalify applications.

  • Chemical composition standard: AlSi10Mg
  • Ultimate tensile strength: 460 MPa
  • Yield strength: 245 MPa
  • Elongation at break: 5%
  • Good thermal and electrical conductivity with possibility of heat treatment

We’re proud to have developed our first EOS metal material made with 100% recycled feedstock and to have achieved so much in less than a year. We will continue to explore ways to reduce the carbon footprint of our customers‘ applications with every EOS product – from materials and hardware to design optimization – they all add up to a more responsible end-use product for our customers and the climate,Sophia Heyl, product specialist at EOS, said.
