The Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team adds another 3D Printing system to its equipment & extends collaboration with Additive Industries

Today, we discovered a new expertise from Additive Industries. Just as other manufacturers of 3D printers, the company can also provide its services to the automotive industry. Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team has extended its partnership with the Netherlands-based company from 3 to 5 years.

The announcement follows the acquisition of the third MetalFAB1 system by the cars specialist as well as the expansion of its 2nd system with an additional build chamber or Additive Manufacturing Core to improve productivity.

Frédéric Vasseur, Team Principal Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team and CEO Sauber Motorsport AG explained that the company aims to increase their production of parts for Formula One further but also to develop their competences in a third party business.

Given the shared projects with Additive Industries, Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team already knows the experience of the company and relies on the potential of its 3D Printing systems. According to Frédéric Vasseur, their level of integration and automation allowed them to implement the technology very fast and with only a small team of experts. “Moreover, the MetalFAB1 system is easy to use and has high consistency across the build chambers and between systems, this allows us to schedule the workload flexibly over the 3 systems”, adds the CEO.

As for Additive Industries, this can only be good news for them, especially if we take into account that the company is currently achieving repeat sales and signing new partnerships. As a reminder the last one was signed with Laser Lines Ltd to ensure its expansion in UK and Ireland.

Lastly, as far as sales are concerned, 3rdDimension Industrial 3D Printing, a metal AM company will purchase the MetalFAB1 system for the production of large parts. “Much of our team comes from the racing industry with wins at the Indy 500, 24h of LeMans, and multiple championships. The approach developed in racing to reach an optimum solution in minimal time has been a key to our success and we are excited to add the Additive Industries MetalFAB1 to our fleet of equipment as their partnership with the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team has truly accelerated the development of their solution”, said Bob Markley, President and CEO of 3rd Dimension Industrial 3D Printing Co.
