Powder handling equipment manufacturer Volkmann USA, has launched an upgraded version of its PowTReX metal powder conveying system.
Originally introduced in 2018, the newest PowTReX is designed to help metal additive manufacturers produce large volumes of high-quality parts using multiple 3D printers at scale.
The PowTReX system automates the full handling cycle of metal powders used in additive manufacturing. It transfers virgin powder from containers or supply hoppers to the printer, then extracts used powder after a build is complete. The recovered material is automatically sieved to remove oversized particles and agglomerates, before compliant powder is collected and returned to the production loop for reuse.
Based on proprietary material-handling technology already deployed in more than 100 additive manufacturing installations worldwide, the latest PowTReX configuration uses vacuum conveying to draw powder from storage into a buffer unit. From there, the material is fed into an ultrasonic screening system that separates out-of-spec particles while allowing qualified powder to be transferred back to the printers.
The fully enclosed, explosion-proof design prevents material contamination and minimizes operator exposure, eliminating the need for manual powder handling and improving workplace safety.
Designed as a portable solution, PowTReX is compatible with metal 3D printers from all major manufacturers and supports a wide range of materials, including tungsten, cobalt, silver, iron, stainless steel, alumina, nickel-chrome alloys, copper, titanium, carbide dust, corundum, and other metallic powders. An inert gas option is also available for sensitive materials.
