XYZprinting on its new multi-material SLS 3D Printing, and what we can expect from the company in 2022

For XYZprinting, a machine manufacturer that develops the most comprehensive range of 3D printers on the market – all AM technologies included -, 2021 started with a wide range of collaborations to enhance the user experience on its 3D printers.

One of the most highlighted collaborations of the company is the one it signed with materials producer BASF Forward AM. With the goal of enabling industrial users to explore thebenefits of high-performance materials with XYZprinting’s solutions, both partners work together on specific solutions for the MfgPro236 xS, the new high-powered SLS 3D printer from XYZprinting.

The collaboration with BASF Forward AM has led to the compatibility of Ultrasint® PA11 carbon fiber and Ultrasint® PA6 Mineral Filled powders on the new machine. The most important advantage of these materials over other black SLS materials is that they do not require post process dying.

Ultrasint® PA6 MF best serves demanding technical applications requiring mechanically reinforced thermoplastic qualities as well as highly loaded parts. Not only does it represent a significant step forward in additive-based serial production, but it also delivers high stiffness, media tightness and enhanced thermal distortion – characteristics that we do not always find in other powder bed fusion materials – according to XYZprinting.

Ultrasint® PA11 on the other hand, is a bio-derived powder material (castor oil) for advanced applications where toughness matters. This alternative to PA12 features great elongation at break, elasticity, and impact resistance in parts. Typical applications include environments with high deformations (e.g. film hinges) and/or specific conditions (e.g. chemical, detergents, oil). It does not splinter in most crash circumstances due to its strong ductility. Skin contact applications are possible with Ultrasint® PA11 Black.

Other materials that can be processed on the MfgPro236 xS SLS platform include: sPro12W / sPro11CF / sProTPU / sPro11B / sPro11W / sPro6FR / sPro6LM / sPro6MF / sProPP / sPro6NE. The new MfgPro236 xS will be commercially available in Q1 2022. A conversation with Fernando Hernandez, EMEA Managing Director of XYZprinting revealed more about the company’s plans in 2022.
