Captain of the UAE Team Emirates Tadej Pogačar won the Tour De France 2020, “La Grande Boucle” (The Great Circuit) riding a bicycle from Colnago, whose frame has been 3D printed.
Colnago is a brand of entrepreneur Ernesto Colnago’s company, acknowledged for the creation of models with increasingly ergonomics and very high precision. The brand provides a variety of models that suit various bike experiences, from road bikes to e-bikes.
Italian 3D printer manufacturer Sharebot has recently supported the bike expert in its training and R&D activities. Using the Sharebot Q printer, they have been able to manufacture and assemble various parts for the bikes. One of these parts were a yellow frame that was thereafter mounted on Pogačar’s bike.
“The ability to print in 1: 1 scale and try the assembly directly proved to be very important and allowed us to speed up the development cycle and above all to finalize and optimize the product without having to make expensive changes to the production molds. The printing time was around 8-12 hours, this means that we were able to prototype the handlebars in the free-times between one day and the next, however without ever having waste prints, detachments or involuntary interruptions, which on particular so big (~ 350gr of pla) would have been a big waste of time and resources” Davide Fumagalli, R&D Manager, Colnago explained.
As for Sharebot, it’s been 7 years that the company researches, develop and produces additive technologies. With over 3,000 installations all over the world and an Academy and an advanced support service, the company positions itself as a partner for manufacturers across all industries. And more than a simple collaboration, Colnago’s example reflects their pride to be among those technological innovators that improve sport disciplines.
