Silca is one of the producers of quality bicycle accessories that we have been monitoring ever since we have discovered the company leverages 3D printing at the heart of its production. Adding 3D printing to the production environment is often a logical step for manufacturers of bike accessories or bikes who are aware of all the wonders the technology can enable in the development and customization of bikes

In this specific case, Silca mainly leverages 3D printing for the production of computer mounts – as you may have seen here. With the goal of simplifying their sizing while adding a secure mount for lights or cameras underneath, the company has developed Chisela, a sleek computer mount for Wahoo® and Garmin™ bike computers.

The use of 3D printing and ceramic coating for the cleanest airflow possible enable to meet lightweight and strength requirements. AM was especially useful as the technology enabled to achieve unique, gyroid or hollow geometries inside to deliver the strong infrastructure desired to handle the load for the computer and accessory mount. The ceramic coating in Cerakote black is often used in aerospace, military, and biomedical applications. In this case, it adds a certain charm and durability to the computer mount and increases abrasion resistance by over 100 times while strenghtening corrosion resistance more than 1000 times over traditional metal finishes and paint coatings.

The Chisela features a unique 'T-Tray' mounting system inspired by the T shaped underfloor of an F1 race car. This allows for quick-release style attachment of lights or cameras and offers more versatility for those who need it. Just slide until you hear the click to install and then pull on the lever to slide off the accessory mount. Best of all, the T-Tray system adds virtually no additional weight and has no aerodynamic penalty while adding functionality, the company explains.

Chisela is available in two adjustable sizes (standard and wide) and fits almost every handlebar stem with front-facing bolts. Additional Chisela designs have been developed, as well, to accommodate integrated stems/handlebar brands, like Madone, Cervélo, Fizik, 3T, Specialized, and Black Inc. The Metron FSA 5D/6D is also a custom option for those riding like the EF Pro Cycling team.
