SAM Project to end with an event on AM Sector Skills Strategy Roadmap consolidation and recommendations for sustainability

Sector Skills Strategy in Additive Manufacturing aka SAM, a project that started three years ago with the goal of accelerating the development of the AM workforce through targeted education, is gradually reaching its end.

Over the past years, as an Associated Partner, 3D ADEPT Media has witnessed some of the key milestones of this project and how much it has enabled professionals from different backgrounds to learn and discover AM. Remember for instance, the first results of SAM Pilots as well as other relevant milestones reached recently.

Next week, on October 19th at Altis Grand Hotel in Lisbon, Portugal, the project partners and stakeholders will hold the final conference of this project. The conference occurs alongside the celebration of the European Welding Federation (EWF)’s 30th anniversary.

EWF, the coordinator for SAM, is organizing an entire week focused on emphasizing state of the art and innovative developments in Additive Manufacturing (AM) and its industrialization around the world.

In this context, a dedicated live session devoted to Qualifications & Skills for AM and to SAM is foreseen to present the latest outcomes and emergent profiles for the AM sector at international level.  The conference will count on an experts panel to present and dynamize several pitches with particular focus on International Qualification System (IAMQS) pillar, such as: Harmonisation, Flexibility and Quality in delivering training in additive manufacturing.

The conference, will include a look into the future of AM education and skills, thus focusing on discussing the new insights towards the AM Sector Skills Strategy Roadmap consolidation and recommendations for its sustainability.   The Skills Roadmap outlines the complex challenges that the AM sector currently faces, in the form of “Gap drivers” (challenges) between what the industry needs in terms of educational/training offer and what is currently available, thus placing forward key strategic initiatives and concrete activities to address each of the main seven strategic objectives (see Image below)

Further details about the Sector Skills Strategy can be found in the Booklet.

In terms of audience, the conference will count with the participation of academia, education and industry representatives, enabling opportunities for them to learn more about AM trends and to network.  Joining the conference will also be a good opportunity to discover Lisbon, a city full of authenticity where old customs and ancient history intermix with cultural entertainment and hi-tech innovation, a press release reads.
