Orbital Express Launch Ltd. (Orbex), a European company developing micro-launchers, has signed agreements with suppliers to support its Sutherland Spaceport for the operational launch.

Altair, a software provider based in Michigan USA, will provide Altair HyperWorks, a platform focusing on design and structural simulation while providing composite design and AM solutions to support Orbex’s orbital launch.

Orbital harnesses Additive Manufacturing for its micro-launcher

Orbex is constructing Sutherland Spaceport for its upcoming launch of customer vehicles. The Orbex Prime micro-launcher will support the vertical launch of small satellites into Low Earth Orbit.

Orbex Prime is a low-carbon micro launch vehicle that can cater to several customers. It is environmentally friendly and reusable. The flexible core launch services will make it easier for customers with reliability to offer their customers significant control over their mission requirements.

The launch vehicle is designed with careful attention to detail, including propulsion, avionics, structures & software. Orbex has harnessed Additive Manufacturing tech to construct the carbon fiber, graphene composites & the propulsion subsystem.

Altair platform to provide Additive Manufacturing solutions

Altair HyperWorks offers a platform for simulating concept & design challenges by leveraging AI solutions, data analytics, and real-life visualization. This open, customizable, unified simulation & design platform can reduce waste by eliminating additional costs.

Orbex can harness Altair HyperWorks to simulate and analyze overheating, crash impact, extreme conditions, and drop. It can transform future approaches to product design and development.

The Orbex launcher promotes low carbon usage and enables reduced carbon emissions. The 3D-printed rocket engines are manufactured sans any joints. The AI-powered simulation will lead to several new product development programs in the future.
