While Formnext is acknowledged as the show of new product launches, engineering company and major distributor of AM solutions, Multistation is drawing our attention on the show with a “Second Life” service which focuses on the international purchase and resale of pre-owned industrial and additive manufacturing machines.
Despite being smaller than the market for new equipment, the second-hand market for industrial 3D printing machines is very much active and will probably continue to grow as the technology matures.
Driven largely by the goal to lower the cost of entry into additive manufacturing or expand capacity without major capital expenditure, buyer of second-hand machines can achieve significant savings.
That said, the market remains niche due to concerns around machine lifespan, maintenance support, and the rapid pace of technological upgrades. As a result, second-hand industrial printers tend to attract informed purchasers—typically service bureaus, R&D labs, and SMEs—who are prepared to balance cost advantages with the need for re-qualification and ongoing reliability.
At its booth, in Hall 12.0, B11, Multistation is showcasing solutions and services that support the purchase of second-hand machines or resale projects with confidence, from technical audits to turnkey services including disassembly, transport and delivery, reinstallation, commissioning, and training.
“Formnext is the only trade fair where we can meet, in full confidentiality, both industrial companies from around the world looking to resell their surplus equipment and those seeking to expand their production capacity,” explains Jean-Bertrand Lefebvre, Head of the MULTISTATION SECOND LIFE division. “For many years, we have been offering our clients verified, reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions, ensuring the optimal value of their equipment. Our approach is also part of an environmental and circular economy mindset.”
The Multistation SAS teams will also be present on the stands of their partners, whose machines we distribute on the French market.
