Evonik’s new elastomer powder to better 3D printed parts for consumer goods

Evonik has launched a new INFINAM TPA elastomer powder material for SLS polymer 3D printing.

Specialty chemicals producer Evonik Industries is extending their elastomeric materials used in powder bed fusion 3D printing with the launch of INFINAM® TPA elastomer powder material.

The new elastomer powder material INFINAM® TPA 4006 P will optimize SLS 3D printing and open up the application of Additive Manufacturing to new consumer goods.

INFINAM® TPA 4006 P powder material can work with all types of open-source SLS 3D printing machines. It’s a PA12 elastomer material that has polyamide 12 segments and softening segments. The new elastomer powder material has rubber-like properties and good impact strength which gives it an excellent rebound behavior.

The new 3D printing elastomer powder has high process stability and powder flow properties which makes it ideal for SLS 3D printing. Added to this, the high reusability rates of 50/50 virgin vs. used material makes it more suitable.

The Director of Powder Bed Fusion at Evonik, Arnim Kraatz said: “By offering new optimized 3D printing materials, we enable our customers to take advantage of the unique set material properties in order to explore and scale up new applications”.

The AM parts created from  INFINAM® TPA 4006 P have great feature detail and surface resolution. Moreover, these 3D printed parts can withstand a wide range of temperatures from –40°C to 90°C, making them more durable. The new elastomer powder material is best suited for manufacturing high-tech plastic 3D-printed parts for both prototypes as well as series products.

The TPA elastomer powder material has been in use to create AM parts for a variety of consumer goods including footwear which would be further enhanced with this new addition.

So far Evonik’s range of elastomeric 3D printing materials has two powders for powder bed fusion 3D printing technologies

  • thermoplastic amide INFINAM® TPA
  • thermoplastic copolyester INFINAM® TPC

Other than that Evonik has INFINAM® FL, a rubber-like photopolymer resin for photo-curing 3D printing.

The specialty chemicals company will present their new INFINAM® TPA 4006 P powder material at Formnext 2023 at the Evonik stall in hall 12.1 booth C39 between November 7 and November 10.
