A Los Angeles-based hybrid manufacturing company recently developed tools for adding 3D printing capabilities to CNC machines. The new capabilities added by 3D Hybrid Solutions implemented tools such as Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing, Laser Metal Deposition, and Cold Spray.
In spite of the great solutions industrial 3D printers might offer, the greatest challenge is that people can not always afford them due their high price. With 3D Hybrid’s solution, the 3D printing tools designed can transform existing CNC machines into hybrid manufacturing systems with 3D printing capabilities.
Tools such as Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing, Laser Metal Deposition, and Cold Spray enable to address three 3D printing processes. The high price of these tools (about $50,000) is often a barrier that prevent manufacturers to get into 3D printing.
Furthermore, using CNC machine can give users the possibility to exploit both both additive and subtractive manufacturing capabilities. Therefore, it is possible to produce at a lower cost while saving time by 3D printing components to net shape, and thereafter machine them with CNC tool heads.
For the company, this innovation is the “only hybrid manufacturing tool integrator offering multiple metal deposition technologies for virtually any CNC machine.”
