For quality to be integrated throughout the AM process, operators needs to “tick multiple boxes”, two of the most important being the validation of 3D printed parts as well as well the qualification of machines. This quality challenge is even more complex for industrial aerospace and automotive manufacturers who need to deal with the most stringent requirements of the industry.

Several machine manufacturers have been working on this issue lately and SLM Solutions joins the cohort with a unique quality assurance software solution. Named SLM.Quality, this digital quality assurance solution is compatible with the SLM®125, SLM®280, SLM®500, and SLM®800. It aims to accelerate build job evaluations and process qualifications and part certifications.

Whether it’s for single part or series production, the SLM.Quality solution can support industrial customers during the qualification process, improving traceability and documentation of key process data, a press communication reads.

This means that operators could visualize and assess their build data for parts validation and to ensure better processes. If required, the digital quality assurance solution can be supported by a speedy and error-free documentation process.

Furthermore, the company explains that once integrated within a production control system, the optional SLM.Quality API is proven to be valuable for research institutes and universities. They can use the API to deep dive into evaluating events, condition monitoring and process monitoring data, and apply the retrospective information to their research areas, such as data science.

Nicolas Lemaire, Product Manager Software & Product Control at SLM Solutions, states: “SLM.Quality is the ideal quality assurance solution to enable Additive Manufacturers to adopt the best-in-class industry practices by performing process qualification and part validation activities even more efficiently than before. The solution is flexible as we offer a ready-to-use desktop application with visualization dashboards and a reporting tool, but also an API to enable seamless access to the process data for the MES and Production control system.”

The launch of this solution follows a partnership with Assembrix to make remote 3D printing a reality. So far, SLM Solutions seems to focus its 2022 year on improving digital manufacturing solutions and something tells me that we haven’t finished talking about the company.
