Over 30 famous buildings in a 3D printed mega model

Fumio Matsumo, professor at Tokyo’s University Museum, recently created a 3D printed model constituted of 30 famous structures. The 3D printed model features architectural structures based on ancient Egypt and the present day.

Entitled “Memories of Architecture”, the block-shaped installation incorporates structures that are built in a certain chronological order. The 3D printed object presents several differences and similarities between the architectural styles through hundreds of years.

While it is not a comprehensive overview of architectural history, it does illustrate some significant trends over time, such as the shift from massive to minute forms and from enclosed to open spaces,” Matsumoto said.

The architecture in this 3D model includes Karnak Temple, the Pantheon, Notre-Dame de Reims, Nandaimon Gate of Todaiji Temple, Villa Savoye, and the Moriyama House.
