Osprey, once known as the AM material product from Sandvik is now a standalone company.

The new advanced materials company has been acquired by Mimir that specializes in acquiring divisions and business areas from larger groups and driving powerful, global growth through strategic investment in high-technology businesses.

The acquisition process was announced a few months ago and in between, Sandvik introduced a new metal powder in Osprey®’s portfolio.

As a standalone company, Osprey will develop and manufacture gas atomized metal powders, controlled expansion alloys and engineered materials for demanding applications across aerospace, defense, medical technology, energy and advanced manufacturing.

Founded in 1974, the business combines more than 50 years of metallurgical expertise with a portfolio of over 2,000 powder grades and established customer relationships.

Osprey’s technical expertise, qualified manufacturing capabilities and position in demanding end markets provide a strong foundation for long-term growth. MonteCap is co-investing alongside Mimir, and its founder, Mats Gunnarsson, brings extensive industry experience as he joins Osprey as Chairman at closing.

“Osprey has deep technical expertise and a strong foundation to build on,” said Joakim Notö, Group Chairman & Managing Partner, Mimir. “Our role is to give the business the focus, investment and speed of decision making to take its next step. We have carved out and built a significant number of businesses since 2017.”

Operations continue at Osprey’s production sites in Neath, Wales and Sandviken, Sweden. Customers will continue to work with the same teams and receive products manufactured on the same qualified lines, to the same specifications. Existing contracts, orders and technical contacts remain unchanged, and ordering continues without interruption.
