Metal 3D Printing Company Titomic extends its company portfolio with acquisition of TRI-D DYNAMICS

Tri-D Dynamics Inc. and Marubeni-Itochu Steel Inc. plan to develop smart pipes, like the one pictured above, that will integrate sensors and electronics to enable digital supply chain tracking and bring the benefits of digitally-connected infrastructure to the energy industry.

As a reminder, with the goal of staying ahead as a global solutions leader in additive manufacturing, Titomic has initiated a global strategy to collaborate with its clients through joint ventures and by acquiring other companies.

On the heels of the new venture it created with Néos to manufacture metal 3D printed Invar36 Faceplates, Titomic has announced the future acquisition of Tri-D Dynamics Inc (‘Tri-D’), a Silicon Valley-based design and manufacturing company that has been developing smart pipe infrastructures.

Tri-D Dynamics ambitions to enhance and electrify infrastructure by embedding electronics directly into metal structures to outfit them with digitally connected technology. The smart-pipe product developed by Tri-D represents a unique innovative solution, which is set to be fully commercialised when combined with the licensed TKF process. In the AM industry, the company is known for the development of what it calls “augmented additive manufacturing,” which combines cold-spray additive technology with rocket science.

The start-up was founded by Deepak Atyam, Alex Finch and Jesse Lang who bring together their skills in cold-spray, composites and rocket engine design.

The acquisition is subject to contract and due diligence. Once it will be complete, Tri-D will operate as Titomic USA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Titomic. The founders will work as Titomic USA’s key employees, focusing on the parent company’s initiatives in the defence, aerospace as well as the oil and gas industries.

Needless to say, Titomic USA will benefit from Tri-D’s existing product portfolio and contracts within the clean technology, oil and gas, as well as surveying industries. Additionally, having Titomic commercial and technical employees on the ground in North America will help accelerate Titomic’s service offering and product portfolio in the region.

“We are delighted to welcome Deepak, Alex and Jesse to the Titomic team. The acquisition of the Tri-D business is an important part of our U.S. market strategy and will add Silicon-Valley innovation and dynamics to develop novel and disruptive applications in line with our growth strategy”, Norbert Schulze, Interim CEO of Titomic says, speaking of this acquisition.
