BOFA launches new filtration technology for Polymer 3D Printing

While environmental concerns are leading to more stringent regulations for clean air and water, it should be noted that in manufacturing, the stake consists in keeping the air and gas free from contaminants during operations, helping to ensure purity of the process outputs.

In any case, environmental, safety and production concerns are creating market opportunities for filtration technologies. The latest company that has decided to take advantage of this market opportunity in the AM industry is BOFA International. The global company that specializes in fume extraction and filtration is launching 3D PrintPRO HT, a new system designed to filter the high temperature particulate and gases emitted by advanced 3D print units that process polymers at up to 932oF (500°C).

High temperatures have always been challenging in polymer 3D printing. The challenge was even higher for filtration systems that remove the extremely hot airborne fume, gases and nanoparticles emitted by the process.

The newly developed 3D PrintPRO HT uses advanced electronics components and thermal insulation to deliver high levels of filtration performance in chamber environments up to 212oF (100°C)– a 50% increase over other models in BOFA’s 3D PrintPRO range. This enables the safe removal of both potentially harmful airborne contaminants and particulate that could damage expensive equipment, using an anticipated maximum air flow rate of 75 cu ft/min.

Haydn Knight, Sales & Marketing Director at BOFA, commented: “This is another market innovation that is keeping pace with advances in 3D print technology. It enables operators to benefit from high performance polymers, safe in the knowledge that they are helping protect the work environment and their investment in equipment.

We know that high temperature 3D printers are increasingly in demand for the quality and diverse range of products they create – everything from medical devices and aeronautical components to bicycles and sports equipment – and the 3D PrintPRO HT will facilitate the wider adoption of this technology.”

The 3D PrintPRO HT will be on display at the Formnext 2021 exhibition taking place in Frankfurt between 16th & 19th November, where representatives from BOFA will be available on stand 12.0-E22.
