Axtra3D continues to build credibility in the dental manufacturing segment with the latest addition to its Keyprint® material ecosystem: the validation of KeyModel Ultra™ Ivory on the Lumia X1 platform, developed in partnership with Keystone Industries.
When Axtra3D secured its Series A funding in 2022, the company was already identifying dental care as one of the key verticals for the Lumia X1, alongside aerospace, automotive, and consumer goods. It looks like it was just a matter of when, and with whom. This partnership with Keystone answers both.
Keystone Industries is no newcomer to dental 3D printing. The company has been manufacturing premium dental products since 1908 and has decades of experience as a leading producer of biocompatible, cutting-edge photopolymer resins, making it a meaningful partner for Axtra3D to co-validate materials at this level.
The relevance for dental lab environments
Once cured, the KeyModel Ultra™ material can be carved without chipping, eliminating one of the most prevalent roadblocks to dental model printing. It is also formulated with a quick-release agent, allowing ease of use for forming molds, and is well-suited to clear aligner and restoration workflows. These are not minor quality-of-life improvements; they directly affect throughput, rework rates, and operational predictability at scale.
The validation process itself was rigorous. Keystone’s 3D dental R&D team worked closely with Axtra3D to confirm that optimized resin settings produced high-quality parts meeting stringent dimensional accuracy requirements, before advancing to mechanical testing.
Additional validations are now underway across the broader KeyPrint portfolio, including KeyOrtho Model, KeyGuide, and multiple KeySplint variants.
The dental 3D printing market is one of the most mature and demanding application domains in additive manufacturing. Axtra3D has consistently framed material partnerships as central to its business strategy, with CSO Rajeev Kulkarni noting that collaborations with established material players are crucial to building a robust ecosystem that supports both its Axtra Solutions™ and Axtra OpenAccess™ models. This latest step with Keystone reinforces that philosophy and positions Axtra3D more firmly in a segment where workflow reliability and material consistency are non-negotiable.
